Energy Usage Assessment
- Makes Energy Utilization Visible & Actionable
- Identify Costly Idle Loads & Reduce Demand
- Reduce Your Energy Use and Costs
- Foundation for Energy Management Strategies
The Energy Usage Assessment (EUA) provides you with the expertise and assistance to better understand how, where, and why you use energy and how to manage it. Energy is one of the top
four costs of doing business today, and it is making an increasingly larger impact on your bottom line. The problem is that energy is “invisible“, making it easy to overlook the significant cost savings to be gained by better managing your energy use. Once you can “see” how you utilize energy, you can implement strategies to reduce the amount of energy that you use – and your costs.
The Energy Usage Assessment program is funded through Energize CT and administrated by your local utility. By participating in the EUA program, you not only gain an understand of your actual energy use, but you get a road-map showing where and how you can reduce both energy utilization and costs. Participation in the program is on a 50% – 50% cost-shared basis, with the participant’s share of the cost ranging from $3,000 to $8,000 depending on the the size, type, and complexity of their facility. All or most of your share of the cost can be recaptured as your local utility will pay you $0.05 for each kWh saved as a result of participating in the program.
The first step of the program is to characterize where, when, and how you utilize energy throughout your facility. Special equipment is temporarily installed to capture energy utilization at key equipment and systems within your facility. Once installed, the monitoring equipment is left to record energy data for a 2 to 3 week period to ensure that we capture a representative sample of your actual energy use. Collected real-time energy usage information will be combined with historical data to provide you with an in-depth understanding of your energy utilization.
An “Energy Team” consisting of 2 to 5 people will be established and charged with implementing and managing your energy reduction initiative. The team will receive training in energy conservation concepts and learn how to identify opportunities to reduce and minimize energy use. They will then participate in conducting an in-depth survey of your facility’s overall energy efficiency. This survey will take into account machinery and equipment, HVAC systems, compressors and air delivery systems, lighting, building envelope, insulation, and other systems.
The collected data will be analyzed and the Team will develop a detailed report outlining how energy is being utilized within your facility and identifying Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) that can reduce your energy use and related costs. Each ECM opportunity will include an analysis of the benefits to be captured, implementation costs, ROI, and the payback period to help you make an informed decision on an implementation strategy. The report will also identify applicable programs, incentives, credits, and funding sources for each of the ECMs to help you offset implementation costs.
As your Energy Team implements the various Energy Conservation Measures and you begin to reduce your energy use, your local utility will pay you $0.05 for every kWh that you save. The more energy that you save, the more you will be paid. You will realize both the on-going benefit of lower energy costs and a quicker pay-back period on your energy conservation efforts.
Participating in the EUA program will provide your company with:
- Detailed analysis of your energy use and related costs
- Energy efficiency analysis of your equipment and facility systems
- Identification of “idle load” energy waste
- Quantified list of Energy Conservation Measures to reduce costs
- Increased employee participation in energy conservation
- Access to programs, resources, and funding
The Energy Usage Assessment program provides you the opportunity to truly understand where you are spending money on energy, and shows you ways that you can reduce your costs by using less of it.
